Vodacom Miss Tanzania 2009 was officially launched in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday night, when the cellular phone company signed another two-year deal to sponsor the annual event. However, the company’s Head of Sponsorships and Communications, George Rwehumbiza, could not reveal the package but said that the firm has improved the package this year.
Last year Vodacom dished out some 600m/- to support the event. “I’m happy to inform you that Vodacom Tanzania is still the main sponsor of the 2009 beauty pageant for the fourth consecutive year and our sponsorship again will start from the grassroots level to the final show at the national level,” he said. Rwehumbiza added: “For those of you who saw the finale show, I believe you saw a show that meets international standards and we promise to do even better this year.” Vodacom’s sponsorship once again will include the Media and Editors seminar, Judges Seminar, administrative and costs of organizing the final show as well as cash prizes for winners.
“Our continued sponsorship is yet another example of our commitment to participate in various community activities by giving back to the community that we serve,” Rwehumbiza said. Vodacom has welcomed other companies to co-sponsor the pageant.
The Managing Director of Lino International, Hashim Lundenga, who are the event organizers, commended Vodacom for its commitment and support towards beauty pageant in the country.“It is obvious that since Vodacom started sponsoring this pageant the standard of the competition has risen significantly,” he said and called upon girls with quality to turn up and participate in the upcoming contest. Nasreem Karim is the reigning Miss Tanzania.
